The American LGBTQ Rights Movement

This course provides an overview of the LGBTQ rights movement. It succinctly studies the oppressive social conditions under which LGBTQ people lived throughout
the 20th century, then provides a primer on the key organizations and leaders that fought back against these conditions.

It explores the earliest gay rights organizations from the 1950s, the transition towards more radical 1970s-era “gay liberation,” the bleak days of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, resurgent activism in the 1990s, the rise of gay marriage, transgender visibility, and a host of other important issues.
